Join us for our inaugural Out on Screen presentation, We Were Here. This deeply moving documentary looks back on the early days of the AIDS crisis in San Francisco and offers a revelatory portrait of the community that came together to confront the crisis with love, compassion, and determination.

After the film, Professor Stephen Trovillion Smith, Dept. of Theatre and Dance, and director of the recent UWSP production of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart, will participate in a post-screening discussion. Steve will be joined by student artists from The Normal Heart; together, they’ll share their experiences researching and performing Kramer’s play, which was first produced in the 1980s as a contemporary response by the gay community to the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York.
The screening is free and open to the public.
